To make sure folks understand my goals for this page, I carry links to applications for one of three reasons:

  1. It's a freeware (or even better, open source) app or resource that I genuinely like and find useful, and I want do what I can to support the developer's efforts, by doing some 'marketing push' on their behalf (whether they want the help or not is probably debatable<g>). Most of my shell links and associated modules & add-on's falls into this category.
  2. It's a freeware app that may not yet be feature complete, or even very useful, but it's fun, or readers may find it an interesting item to check out, and at worst it costs nothing to fool around with. In other words new & interesting toys for the readers.
  3. It's a shareware or commercial app that is commonly associated with replacement-shell usage, or that I routinely get asked about, that I carry a link to as a service to readers, in hopes of saving them search time. In addition I try to include some of the extra information that folks commonly want to know about an eval or demo, aside from the feature lists & such that are commonly found on the developer's site. Sometimes these items take some sincere digging to find prior to actually downloading & installing the app.<g> I aim to answer questions like: "What does the full version cost?", "What are the pre-registration limits?", and "What type of nag does the app use, how intrusive is it, and how often does it occur?". In other words, the questions that I always try to get answered myself before I even download an eval. :^P

So before you assume I'm unfairly pointing out the warts of your favorite app, remember my primary goal is to serve the needs of my readers, and let the developers 'sell' the app.:).
